Lost Circulation and Cementing Drilling Chemicals
The following are applications of using Loss Circulation & Cementing chemicals:
Pump EZ Squeeze as a standalone pill, to cure losses from moderate to severe. EZ Squeeze has also been used to strengthen wellbores before casing, and to allow that the cement placement can be achieved to the planned depth as required by the operator.
- In the event of losses immediately below a casing shoe due to a poor cement job, which cause an unsuccessful FIT, or inadequate LOT, EZ Squeeze can be spotted and squeeze to give the required shoe strength.
- EZ Squeeze can be pumped to squeeze off perforations on production wells where it is necessary to plug the perforations before abandoning a zone.
- EZ Squeeze can also be pumped through a coiled tubing string to seal off perforations.
- EZ Squeeze in combination with SwelLCM can be pumped to seal off severe losses, from partial losses to no returns. When pumping this combination of pills, the pills can be pumped using the SwelLCM by itself initially to start the sealing process, and then follow with EZ Squeeze to complete the seal, and squeeze the zone to the required pressure in order to stop the losses, and allow for drilling.
- Another application of the EZ Squeeze with SwelLCM, is to pump the pills in tandem together. This combination can be pumped in severe losses, using the SwelLCM as backing. If there are partial returns, the tandem pill would be pumped with the BOP closed to force the pills into the formation without causing mixing of the two pills.
- SwelLCM is normally used as backing in severe loss situations, but can also be pumped as a treatment before pumping cement plugs
- Before pumping cement on a casing job, SwelLCM can be pumped to seal off losses or to reduce seepage losses such that cement can be placed effectively.
- First Response (or Enhanced LCM pills) can be used to stop moderate losses while drilling in most hole sizes, or can be used to strengthen a wellbore.
- First response can also be used in large hole sizes to reduce losses such that the casing can be run and cemented successfully, allowing the operator to achieve cement at surface, without extra top cement jobs being required.
- Wild Plug can be used to reduce losses, especially in top hole sections, where a quick response is required.
Notes on EZ Squeeze and SwelLCM:.
- Can be pumped through any size bit, and has also been pumped successfully through downhole tools. Both products are not prone to setting up and plugging drill strings.
- EZ squeeze and First Response are recommended to pump through a circulating tool such as a pbl.
- EZ Squeeze can be premixed and held in a mixing pit for up to a month without adding weight material. This can save mixing time if losses are suspected to occur.

EZ Squeeze
High Fluid Loss, Extensive Particle
Size Loss Circulation Squeeze Blend
DESCRIPTION:
EZ Squeeze is a high fluid loss, high solids, lost circulation squeeze material. solid plug is formed within the loss zone when the liquid phase is squeezed from the slurry rather than remaining at or near the face of the wellbore. This minimizes the possibility of the seal being removed during operations eliminating repeated remedial treatments of the same zone which is common in most “squeeze LCM’s”.
RECOMMENDED TREATMENT:
TCI recommends using EZ Squeeze to remediate partial to massive losses in the open hole and/or sealing perferations in cased hole.
BENEFITS:
-
Solves partial to massive loss circulation events. The key factor to obtaining a succesful EZ Squeeze placing the EZ Squeeze slurry at the proper location in the wellbore (where assumed losses are occurring).
-
Eliminates risk of sidetracking 9which can occur with cementing).
-
Pumping EZ Squeeze is less costly then pumping redundant generic loss circulation material.
-
The optimal particle size blend seals multi-sized fractures and reduces effective response time to whole mud losses.
-
EZ Squeeze can be mixed in all fluid types.
-
Mixes easily through the hopper.
SwelL CM
Pre-Squeeze / Pre-Cement, Gelled
Swelled Material
DESCRIPTION:
Turbo-Chem’s SwelLCM is a unique product that has been used with great success when pumped ahead of EZ Squeeze or Cement, in extreme lost circulation events SwelLCM’s unique blend of super absorbent and Bio-Polymer combine to form a Low Shear Rate Viscous Fluid that expands to fills large-continuous fractures.
RECOMMENDED TREATMENT:
Pump SwelLCM @ 12.5 ppb (at any weight) ahead of cement and/or squeeze job. Product should be mixed at half the volume of the pill to be pumped behind it.
BENEFITS:
-
Solves partial to massive loss circulation events. The key factor to obtaining a successful SwelLCM job is by placing the slurry at the proper location in the wellbore (where assumed losses are occurring).
-
Vital in stopping losses in cavernous formations which normally would require cementing, sidetracking or plug and abandonment procedures.
-
Helps remediate casing shoe failures.
-
Can be used in drilling or worked over cased hole for sealing casing leaks or perforations.
-
Very low concentrations required.
-
Mixes easily through the hopper and can be cleaned up in the wellbore through standard acidizing procedure.
First Response
DESCRIPTION
TCI’s First Response is a single sack precise blend of cellulose fiber and sized particlate. First Response is an effective treatment for seepage loss and/or lost circulation control in all Water and Oil / Synthetic by TCI’s Research and Development team, addresses the operator’s need of using a single sack, easy to mix product to solve partial to massive losses.
RECOMMENDED TREATMENT:
Treatment rates (for sweeps 5-15 ppb) / (15-70 ppb for pills) or as dictated by the fluid engineer on location per specific wellbore condition.
BENEFITS:
-
First Response is a broad particle size range, single sack blend which provides savings in transportation and space.
-
First Response is easily mixed directly to the active system drilling fluid as a sweep or pill application. Can also be added as a pre-treatment for anticipated loss zones.
-
First Response can be pumped through down hole tools up to 70 ppb. First Response is highly effective when staged or pumped ahead of EZ Squeeze and / or Cement.
-
The optimal particle size blend seals multi-sized fractures and reduce effective response time to whole mud losses.
-
Maximum effect when blended with SYN-Seal and/or Bore-Seal 100 as a sweep or pill application.
-
Mixes easily through the hopper.
WildPlug
Finely Dispersed LCM Designed
For Massive Losses
DESCRIPTION
Turbo-Chem’s Wildplug is a unique product that is made up of finely dispersed particles that aids in eliminating major mud loss events.
RECOMMENDED TREATMENT:
- WildPlug is most applicable when in fractured and/or terrigenous reservoirs with catastrophic losses and/or absorption (6 bbls to full losses).
- Also useful when isolating flows behind the casing in production wells.
- Mixing and pumping procedures are well dependent and will be sent upon request from Turbo-Chem Engineering Specialist.
BENEFITS:
